The Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, today visiting Fornovo di Taro (Parma) and Scalo Po (Piacenza) for the exercises “Cerberus 2026” and “Styx 2026”.

“It is not enough to prevent risks or foresee scenarios: we must anticipate events. We live in particularly complex times. The perspective has changed, the international context has changed, and we must have the ability to adapt and face it with clarity and responsibility. What happens in the world forces us to accelerate in order to be ready when needed. The underground has become a decisive maneuvering space, hosting vital infrastructures such as water, energy, and telecommunications networks. In this context, the Army demonstrates the ability to look ahead, and today’s exercise is a clear evidence of that. We need to maintain niches of excellence while progressively raising the overall level of preparedness. This does not mean overturning but evolving with awareness. As Minister, I have two clear objectives. The first is to ensure that this country has a solid, credible, and ready Defense. The second is to ensure that those who serve the State have the respect, honor, and recognition they deserve. Because anyone who wears a uniform has made a profound choice: to put their own life in the service of others and the security of the country.".

Exercise 'Cerberus 2026'

“In recent years, Defense has changed, and it will continue to change. Today's exercise is a concrete demonstration of this: technology is not an end, but a tool. Next to it, skills remain fundamental: there will always be a need for women and men capable of building bridges, advancing first, operating in the most complex contexts. If a drone can save a life, then that is the direction we must go. Because a man's life is worth more than any investment. Our task is to build a credible Defense, capable of deterring any threat. A Defense that, through preparation, competence, and technological innovation, is always one step ahead. I call it the 'porcupine strategy': a small, seemingly vulnerable animal that discourages the aggressor without seeking confrontation. A symbol of defense and deterrence. This is the model we must strive for. For me, it is an honor to be here, among the women and men who make up what I consider the great family of Defense. A family that must know how to provide training, dignity, and support, especially in difficult times. Because it is also thanks to you that Italy is recognized in the world for what it represents: a country where the uniform does not mean oppression, but humanity; and commitment to peace. You are part of all this. And I have the duty to preserve it".
