The Italian Bilateral Assistance and Support Mission (MIASIT) trains new humanitarian demining specialists in Libya
The donation of material of great value for explosive ordnance search and clearing activities to the operators of the Libyan Military Engineering Department (LYME) was formalized recently.
The initiative was implemented within the framework of the broader programme on special equipment delivery thanks to the synergy between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Ministry of Defence. The latter, provide through the engagement of highly specialized Mobile Training Teams (MTT), cooperation in terms of training and education.
MIASIT’s support in Libya is also expressed by the conduct of highly qualifying courses, in accordance with the Technical Agreement on Military Cooperation signed in 2020, aiming to allow the Libyan Defence capability building.
Through the transfer of expertise sector operators acquire an excellent skills level, in both the individual protection sector and life-saving sector, which include control over people’s security and the country’s economic activities.
The recently concluded activity resulted in increased appreciation for the work of the Italian Armed Forces and effectively contributed to achieve the goals set for the Bilateral Mission, in view of promoting the initiatives of Italy’s National System with the Libyan counterpart.
