Meeting of the Defence Ministers in the E5 format
The Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, took part today in Berlin in the meeting of Defence Ministers in the E5 format, together with his counterparts from France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom, as well as the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
“A meaningful moment of exchange to reaffirm the shared commitment to international stability, strengthening increasingly integrated cooperation within the European and NATO frameworks.
This year of work among the European countries that contribute most to collective security has produced concrete results. We have shared experiences, analysed critical issues, overcome bureaucratic obstacles, and built new tools to strengthen European defence and the industry that supports it.We have pooled resources and energy to support Ukraine, which is facing its fourth winter of war, with Europe and the West at its side. It is a conflict that significantly targets civilian infrastructure and confirms the aggressive nature of Russia’s actions.
We must change our approach by decisively investing in defence and adapting our systems to new threats, including hybrid, cyber, and disinformation threats, in order to build a more cohesive Alliance and a more aware Europe that plays a leading role in ensuring the security of its citizens — supported by a competitive defence industry based on common standards and clear, transparent rules.
This is why we will continue to work in the E5 format; we have the political and military responsibility to lead a new vision of defence, oriented towards a single objective: the stability, security, peace, and well-being of our citizens.”
