Meeting between Minister Crosetto and his Austrian counterpart, Klaudia Tanner
“A cordial and productive meeting with my Austrian counterpart, Klaudia Tanner. It was an opportunity to further discuss our shared vision of a continental European defence capable of extending beyond the framework of the 27 Member States, strengthening coordination, interoperability, and shared capabilities.
The discussion focused on matters of common interest, including support for Ukraine, stability in the Middle East, Lebanon and the future of UNIFIL, as well as the Western Balkans—regions whose security has a direct impact on European and Mediterranean stability. Particular attention was also devoted to the issue of hybrid threats, which require increasingly close cooperation to strengthen the resilience of our societies, protect critical infrastructure, and enhance prevention and response capabilities.
Italy and Austria intend to further strengthen dialogue and cooperation in the defence sector, particularly in the industrial domain, with the aim of reinforcing the European industrial base while accelerating innovation processes through sustainable costs and reduced production timelines.
With this objective in mind, a Letter of Intent was signed to expand strategic dialogue and cooperation between the respective Armed Forces.”
So stated Minister Guido Crosetto.
During the meeting, Minister Tanner, while thanking Italy for the warm welcome extended to the Austrian delegation, expressed her deep satisfaction with the visit and the outcomes of the discussions. She underlined that the strong bond between Italy and Austria goes far beyond mere geographical proximity and is founded on a highly significant strategic partnership.
