Late this afternoon, debris likely from rockets intercepted by Israeli anti-missile systems fell on the UNIFIL base in Shama, South Lebanon, which serves as the headquarters for the Italian-led Sector West Command.
According to initial reports, no injuries have been recorded. One Italian soldier, who received immediate medical attention from base personnel, reported eye pain but sustained no open wounds. His condition is not considered a cause for concern.
The Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, is in constant contact with the Chief of the Defence Staff, the Joint Operations Command (COVI), and the commander of the Italian UNIFIL contingent to receive ongoing updates on the welfare of military personnel and the evolving situation.
