Lebanon: Italian Blue Helmets Identify Incendiary Devices

A number of incendiary devices planted along the road leading to Advanced Base of Operations UNP-1-32A in Southern Lebanon was identified this morning by a UNIFIL Italian patrol during a logistic activity.

A bomb squad from our national contingent intervened on the spot to secure the area. However, they were unable to complete clearing operations as one of the devices set off, causing a fire in the surrounding area. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion.

No harm was caused to people or means.

UNIFIL and Lebanese authorities are investigating the matter to shed light on the event and find out the perpetrators and instigators of the potential threat.
