9 August 2025 – 2:34 p.m. First Airdrop of the “Solidarity Path Operation 2” Humanitarian Initiative
The first airdrop of the humanitarian initiative “Solidarity Path Operation 2” has been carried out — a mission by the Italian Defence using Italian military aircraft loaded with essential supplies destined for the most isolated and hard-to-reach areas of the Gaza Strip. The operation, conceived by the Defence General Staff through the Joint Operations Headquarters (COVI), was conducted in cooperation with the Jordanian Royal Air Force and with the joint commitment of the Italian Army and the Italian Air Force.
Missions will continue over the next few days with further airdrops until the aid provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and other donors is fully distributed.
“Italy is always ready and willing to bring hope and help those most in need. Through this operation, the Defence reaffirms its commitment to civilian populations affected by war, helping to alleviate suffering and save lives. Our goal is twofold: to act swiftly to address the emergency and to continue supporting the political and diplomatic effort for a lasting ceasefire — an essential condition for the only possible peace, in line with the principle of two peoples, two States. This too is the task of Defence: to protect, to heal, to rebuild, putting its skills and capabilities at the service of Italy and the international community. This is what the men and women in uniform do every day, with dedication and professionalism, wherever they are called to serve,” said Minister Guido Crosetto.
9 August 2025 – 10:11 a.m. “Solidarity Path Operation 2” Begins – The Italian Humanitarian Mission to Support the Civilian Population of the Gaza Strip
The second phase of the humanitarian initiative “Solidarity Path Operation” took off this morning — a mission by the Italian Defence to establish an air bridge between Jordan and the Gaza Strip, aimed at delivering vital humanitarian aid to the civilian population severely affected by the ongoing conflict.
The first airdrop was carried out today by Italian military aircraft carrying essential supplies for the most isolated and inaccessible areas of the Strip. The entire operation was planned by the Defence General Staff which, through the Joint Operations Headquarters (COVI), in close cooperation with the Jordanian Royal Air Force and with the combined efforts of the Italian Army and the Italian Air Force, coordinated and directed the mission.
The missions will continue in the coming days with further airdrops until the aid provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and other Italian donors is fully distributed.
Italy reaffirms its commitment to responding concretely to the ongoing humanitarian crisis with an integrated, joint-forces and inter-institutional approach.

“Solidarity Path Operation 2” is part of the broader “Levante” Operation, launched by the Italian Defence from the earliest stages of the humanitarian crisis. This complex deployment has involved all branches of the Armed Forces:
The Navy’s hospital ship Vulcano provided life-saving care to numerous wounded, being the first to operate in international waters off the coast of Gaza;
The Italian Army, through the “Air-Bridge for Gaza” initiative, used helicopters to deliver medicines and medical equipment directly to the most affected and hard-to-reach areas;
The Italian Air Force carried out humanitarian flights to transfer injured or seriously ill children, accompanied by their families, to Italy for specialised care;
The Carabinieri are taking part in the EU mission EUBAM Rafah, contributing to the reopening of the border crossing between Egypt and Gaza, essential for the transit of the suffering population.
With discretion and determination, Italy continues to contribute to alleviating the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, in a spirit of solidarity, humanity, and commitment to peace.
