Italy celebrates the 79th anniversary of the Italian Republic

Rome 03 Jun 2025

The ceremony at the Altare della Patria opened this morning's celebrations for Republic Day.

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, and the highest institutional authorities, paid tribute to the Unknown Soldier by laying a laurel wreath. Afterwards, the Head of State, still accompanied by Minister Crosetto, aboard the historic Lancia Flaminia, reviewed the military units along Viale delle Terme di Caracalla before the parade on Via dei Fori Imperiali. The theme of the celebrations was: “In defense of the Republic, in service of the Country.”

As in previous editions, a delegation of mayors opened the parade: the First Citizens marched wearing the Tricolour sash.

Then, singer Arisa performed the Italian national anthem, accompanied by the Interforces Band.

The parade was divided into 10 sectors, showcasing all components of the State: military and civilian personnel, armed and unarmed corps of the State, flags and standards, military bands and fanfares.

Next came a flyover by helicopters and the jump of six military paratroopers carrying the Tricolour.

To conclude, final honors were paid to the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who left the ceremony site preceded by the Fanfare of the 4th Mounted Carabinieri Regiment and escorted by the Cuirassiers Regiment.

The National Aerobatic Team then drew the Tricolour in the sky over Rome.

On the occasion of Republic Day, the buildings of the Ministry of Defence were decorated with the Tricolour.
