President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, accompanied by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and top institutional representatives laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to honour the Altar of the Fatherland.
Celebrations for this year’s Republic Day, whose theme was “Defending the Republic, Serving the Country”, have taken place at the Fori Imperiali with the traditional Military Parade.
The National Anthem performed for the 78th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic, in the presence of the Head of State, was sang by famed singer Claudio Baglioni, accompanied by the Defence Joint Forces Band.

The ceremony closed with the launch of a paratrooper holding the Tricolour and the fly-over of the National Aerobatic Team, which designed the Tricolour in the Roman sky.
To honour Republic Day all the Defence buildings flew the Tricolour.
