Italian Navy Ship San Marco and two helicopters left for Libya to aid with Search and Rescue activities

Italian Navy Ship San Marco left from Brindisi to Derna to deliver further humanitarian aid to Libya.

The ship carries the remaining Civil ProtectionRed Cross and Defence aid material and personnel. Namely:

2 Search and Rescue Navy helicoptes; 100 tents for 1,000 people; 5,000 blankets; 30 medical material pallets; 8 water pumps; earth moving vehicles and emergency vehicles.

Early in the morning also the third and last Air Force C-130 aircraft has taken off carrying support equipment and basic logistical material.

Navy Ship San Giorgio, having left yesterday from the same Italian port, today has reached the Derna area and over the next days will provide logistical, Command and Control and medical assistance functions to the national mechanism deployed to support the population of Libya's flooded regions. The Armed Forces – following Defence Minister Guido Crosetto's directions to the Defence Staff and Joint Operations Command (COVI) – will provide maximum support to aid the Libyan people struck by storm "Daniel" which caused great devastation especially in Derna, in the Cirenaica,region, and other neighbouring and internal areas. ​
