After 161 days, Italian Navy Ship Luigi Rizzo recently returned to La Spezia, at the end of NATO Brilliant Shield Operation.

The Bergamini class frigate was integrated in the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1(SNMG1), which operated in the Baltic sea, carrying out an activity aimed to maintain international stability by providing air defence to tackle possible threats while protecting Polish critical energy infrastructures, in particular in the north-western area of Gdynia port.

To guarantee the conduct of all her operational tasks, in particular those related to her integration within the Atlantic Alliance security architecture, Navy Ship Luigi Rizzo got her Readiness Verification certification from the Allied Command (AIRCOM). The certification confirmed the ship’s ability to respond rapidly and effectively to possible missile threats.

Under the lead of Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), the naval unit was able to guarantee maritime surveillance and security in an area of fundamental strategic importance.
