Italian Navy Day and conclusion of the Amerigo Vespucci’s world tour
Today in Genoa, the Navy Day was celebrated in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, marking also the conclusion of the world tour of the ship Nave Vespucci.
"I thank the President of the Republic, whose presence is a strong sign of attention toward the Defense sector and a recognition for those who, with pride and sacrifice, represent the best face of Italy around the world," said Minister Crosetto, who then added:
"Today we celebrate Navy Day, the return of Nave Vespucci, and the extraordinary initiative of Villaggio Italia. It is a rich and multifaceted day, but above all, a day of great pride. Everything comes together in feelings of gratitude centered on the men and women of the Navy.
You can have the most beautiful ship, the most technologically advanced one, but without a capable crew, it has no value. It’s not the star player that matters—it’s the team. Among you exists a unique bond that unites everyone, from the Commander to the newest recruit, a bond based on skill, experience, and mutual trust.
This is the lesson not only from the Vespucci, but from all our sailors. I thank the extraordinary crew of the Italian Navy, of whom the country is proud."
The event was attended by the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Luciano Portolano; the Chief of the Navy Staff, Admiral Enrico Credendino; as well as civil, military, and religious authorities.
Also present were the Undersecretaries of State for Defense, Hon. Matteo Perego di Cremnago and Sen. Isabella Rauti.
During the ceremony, honors were bestowed by the Head of State: the Gold Medal of Naval Valor to the Nave Vespucci’s standard and to the Combat Flag of the 2nd Helicopter Group.
