"Simone, Claudio, Franco Adriano, and Laura had chosen to dedicate their lives to the service of others and the Country. Four lives cut short, four losses that leave an immense void in their families and in the entire Defense community.
This morning, together with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, I paid tribute to their memory by laying a flower in the area of the Defense Village dedicated to our fallen. A moment of deep emotion, in which silence expressed the pain we are experiencing more than words ever could.
Starting today, the Defense Village takes on an even deeper meaning. It was designed as a meeting place between the Armed Forces and citizens, to introduce them to the women, men, values, and daily work of those who serve Italy. Today it also becomes a place of memory, reflection, and gratitude. Because service to the Homeland, sacrifice, and the value of the people who lost their lives cannot be forgotten and belong to all Italians.
We wanted to set up a space where anyone who wishes can leave a flower, a thought, a sign of closeness. A simple yet important gesture, to make families feel that the pain of losing their loved ones is shared by an entire community and by the whole Country.
In these hours I am traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina together with the Chief of the Defense Staff and a team of doctors. We want to be alongside our fallen, honor their memory, personally verify the condition of the injured, and bring them a word of comfort and the closeness of the institutions. Sometimes it is enough just to be there, look into the eyes of those who suffer, and do everything possible for those who were injured.
My thoughts go to Simone, Claudio, Franco Adriano, and Laura, to their loved ones, to the injured, and to all those who are facing the consequences of this tragedy.
To their families I want to say that they will not be alone. The Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces, and all of Italy will stand beside them. The sacrifice of their loved ones will remain in our memory and in the history of the Country". Thus Defense Minister Guido Crosetto.
