Guido Crosetto meets with Helen McEntee, Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence

Rome 25 May 2026

Cordial and productive meeting with Helen McEntee, Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence. We shared a common vision on the main international dossiers and on strengthening European cooperation in the field of Defence.

We reaffirmed our common support for Ukraine. The discussion focused on the IRINI mission in the Mediterranean and the situation in Lebanon, reiterating the importance of supporting the country’s stability, strengthening its institutions, and enhancing the Lebanese Armed Forces, as well as promoting a multilateral initiative following UNIFIL.
It is essential to guarantee freedom of navigation through an international commitment aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

We also highlighted the importance of Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among European partners, particularly in the areas of maritime security and the protection of critical infrastructure.

Italy and Ireland confirm an increasingly concrete collaboration for a stronger and more credible Europe, also with a view to consolidating the European pillar of NATO.”

So said Italy’s Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto.
