“The security of our countries depends on the ability to act in a coordinated way on the basis of shared strategies. Global challenges and future crises require a cohesive action because dialogue and diplomacy are the essential pre-requisites of peace", Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said during the meeting with the Japanese Delegation of the Standing Committee on National Security, House of Representatives, led by President Makoto Oniki, held today in Rome at Palazzo Esercito.
A long, cordial discussion focusing on Italy-Japan cooperation and, in particular, the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), of which the UK is also part. The 6th generation aircraft programme will have relevant returns in terms of security and technology development, as well as in the field of research and innovation in the aerospace and defence sectors.
During the meeting the common will to strengthen cooperation within the defence industry sector has also emerged.
On 30 June Minister Crosetto had met with his UK counterpart and Japan Deputy Defence Minister to strengthen the partnership and the GCAP programme, whose Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was signed by the three countries on 16 December 2022.
