Defense Minister Guido Crosetto took part in the European Union Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, in the Defense format.
In Brussels, Minister Crosetto
also had a significant meeting with Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, during which he reiterated his full support for the strategic autonomy of the EU, the European pillar of NATO. “We share the desire to pursue a common vision for the enhancement of the defense industry, to create joint capabilities through a coordinated approach aimed at increasing efficiency, strengthening capacity development, and optimizing the use of resources,” said the Minister. “Let's work together,” he added, “for a European defense policy capable of ensuring security, interoperability, and rapid responses to global challenges.”
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Crosetto had an important exchange of information and views with the new Ukrainian Defense Minister Fedorov Mykhailo. “Meeting him today for the first time was also an opportunity to renew our support for a nation that has been facing the tragedy of fierce aggression for almost four years,” said Minister Crosetto, who then added:
"During the meeting with Minister Fedorov, we discussed the lessons learned by Ukraine during four years of attacks and how to transform this dramatic experience into useful information to increase our security. The Minister expressed his gratitude for the support provided by our country and for the seriousness with which we have approached the situation in recent years.
I reiterated our firm determination to help them pursue every diplomatic avenue available to build a just and lasting peace that respects the rights of Ukrainian citizens, in the knowledge that only solid guarantees of security and peace are an essential condition. I also confirmed our full support for industrial and technological cooperation between Italian and Ukrainian industries, including within the framework of the financial support package approved by the European Union.
Italy will continue to do its part, with seriousness and loyalty."
