Durand de la Penne Navy Ship takes part in Operation Atalanta

Italian Navy unit Durand de la Penne joined Operation Atalanta on 11 July, when she assumed the flagship role of the mission, aimed to ensure freedom of navigation to merchant marine vessels in the Horn of Africa. Operation Atalanta, established by the European Union, avails itself of naval and Air Force assets operating in the area of the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and part of the Indian Ocean, including the Seychelles Islands, covering an area equivalent to the surface of the Mediterranean Sea.
