Carabinieri deployed with MIADIT Somalia (Bilateral Training Mission for Somalia and Djibouti Police Forces) concluded a training course for the canine units of the Gendarmerie Nationale Djiboutienne.
Over the five weeks theoretical and practical classes, the canine trainers of the Carabinieri Corps have trained Djibouti Canine Units to enhance their operational abilities in explosives and exploding substances search activities as well as in techniques adopted to counter potential threats.
The course- which culminated in the ceremony held at the Gendarmerie National Cheick Moussa Headquarters in Arta- aimed to train dog-handlers pairs able to carry out police tasks in full autonomy, support Anti-Terrorism Special Forces, carry out explosives and exploding substances detection activities, building search activities, arresting and managing hostile persons.
The Defence Ministry, through the Carabinieri Corps, provides its contribution to this kind of training, deploying its instructors, belonging to the Florence Canine Carabinieri Centre,. Their tasks, besides teaching theoretical and practical notions on dog management during operational activities, is also to give indications on the local management of canine units, an essential aspect for the dogs’ well-being and health. Another important aspect is establishing a symbiotic dog-handler relation.
