Defence Ministry:Minister Crosetto visits Kuwait

Defence Minister Guido Crosetto concluded his visit in Kuwait, where he met his counterpart, Fahad Al Sabah, and visited the Italian contingent. Talks focused on Italy-Kuwait cooperation, countering Daesh and promoting regional stability. 

“Italy and Kuwait are actively committed to countering the threat posed by Daesh and promote regional stability. Today’s meeting wants to give even greater determination and vigour to common initiatives. Italy and Kuwait will continue to work together to tackle common threats at this time of great instability”, Minister Crosetto stated.

As regards the Middle East crisis and Houti’s terrorist attacks against ships transiting Bab Al Mandeb, Crosetto underscored: “These are acts of physical and hybrid war which affect the economies of some countries while benefiting others, whose ships are deliberately not attacked. To counter such attacks, Italy is taking part in EU Mission Aspides, recently endorsed by the parliament, of which we have the tactical command”. 

Great interest also in cooperation in the defence sector: “ (That) is fundamental –Minister Crosetto said- to counter emerging challenges and guarantee the security of our citizens. Our Armed Forces are cooperating in multiple joint activities and sectors: training, education and meetings aimed to share lessons learned from our respective operational experience. A commitment that confirms the friendship between Italy and Kuwait, essential to increase our solid, long-lasting bilateral relations”.

During his visit Minister Crosetto met with the Italian soldiers of the Italian National Contingent Command Air (IT NCC-AIR). “The country is grateful for what you are doing, for your precious contribution to peace and regional stability. Personally and on behalf of the Institutions, let me thank you for your professionalism and the commitment that inspires your work, for being service-minded, for the sacrifice you make every day. You are aware that what you do for international security is useful for Italy and strengthens its role at the international level”.

The Italian contingent is part of Operation Prima Parthica, aimed to guarantee the necessary conditions for Iraq’s stabilization process and supporting the Security Forces in countering Daesh.
