“General Graziano and I have shared exciting, challenging paths on the way to improving our Defence. His demise leaves profound sorrow and is a terrible loss for the Defence and all of Italy. Today we salute a general, and above all a man, who contributed to modernize our nation also by his actions in the lead positions he was assigned, most notably as Chief of Defence Staff and Chairman of the EU Military Committee, which testify to its value, unconditional attachment to service and absolute loyalty to the institutions. Personally and on behalf of the whole Defence I would like to express , in this incredibly sad circumstances, our deepest condolences to all his dearest ones”.
Thus Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on the death of General Graziano.

General Graziano, born in 1953, started his career by joining the Modena Military Academy in 1972. Appointed as an Alpine Troops Officer in 1972, he led a number of out-of-theatre operations,. In particular, he was Force Commander and U.N. Representative in Lebanon, from 2007 to 2009; he was then appointed Chief of the Army in 2011, Chief of Defence Staff in 2014 and Chairman of the EU Military Committee in 2018, where he served till 2022. The same year he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Fincantieri S.p.A., and Assonave (National Association of the Shipbuilding Industry) President.
