Defence Minister Guido Crosetto this afternoon took part in the round table on Italy, Europe, NATO and the Future of the Mediterranean at the Centre for High Defence Studies (CASD).
“Our Defence concept must move forward, because the world has changed: we need an overall view integrating economic security, critical infrastructure protection, cyber security and resilience. We must take this as a pre-requisite for stability and prosperity. Italy will be credible within the Coalition in which we decided to be a party only if we are aware of how we can ensure defence and security”, Minister Crosetto stated in his speech.
He then underscored: “We need a cultural shift in our country, and this must be done in relatively short time: we were told for years that the Defence did not weigh on our every-day lives. We are now witnessing it is not so. We must understand that the Defence requires the resources it needs, not the ones we want to give it. We cannot work based on the same rules and timelines established 50 years ago”.
The Round Table, moderated by Editor-in-Chief for RAI Educational Offer Monica Maggioni, was attended by President of Med-Or Foundation Marco Minniti, Permanent Representative of the Italian Republic at NATO, Ambassador Marco Peronaci, Ambassador of the United States to the Italian Republic Jack Markell, and Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Cavo Dragone.
The event was organized by the Centre for High Defence Studies (CASD) in cooperation with Med-OR Foundation, to assess – by an ample discussion and common reflection- the current Mediterranean scenario and Italy’s international engagement within NATO.
