“Two years ago Ukraine was suddenly and brutally invaded by Russia: Italy demonstrated its unconditional solidarity for the Ukrainian people: we have been there with them from the very beginning, and will never fail them in contributing to defend their country and achieve a fair peace. Our support for the Ukrainian people was provided cohesively, regardless of our different political beliefs, from the onset: we have delivered 8 aid packages with weapons systems and equipment necessary for Ukraine’s self-defence and to protect Ukrainian homes. The initiative of President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, who decided to call the first videoconference of the G7 Italian presidency on this date from Kyiv, underscores our country’s role in promoting international peace and security. It is through dialogue and cooperation, but also by providing continued shared support to the Ukrainian people, that we can overcome divides and build a peaceful future for Ukraine as well as Europe. Italy’s foreign affairs and defence policy has always had at its core respect for the democratic values, freedom and international law. The first meeting of the G7 summit testifies to our determination to actively contribute to seek diplomatic solutions, and confirms our commitment to work for peace tirelessly: we are and will always be there with the Ukrainian people. Today, our thoughts go to all the victims of this war and their families”, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said in a press release on the occasion of the second anniversary of Ukraine’s invasion by Russia.
