Crosetto: My gratitude to the Armed Forces for Guaranteeing Security at Pope Francis’ Funeral

“The funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis was met with affection, emotion and participation by hundreds of thousands of believers from all corners of the world. They included many Heads of State and Government, important delegations and common people. All eyes were fixed on Rome and Italy for an event that was, at the same time, religious and historical, reaching beyond the boundaries of faith, and witnessed with deep sympathy and participation even by those who were not in Rome, following from afar the farewell of the entire world for His Holiness. An incredible crowd of believers and non-believers, united in grief to mourn an outstanding man and a great Pope, who has always fought with simplicity and determination, shoulder to shoulder with the weakest, the forgotten, the oppressed, while striving for peace and fraternity.
Italy and Rome, today, were also watched over by the men and women of the Armed Forces, who provided their relevant contribution, discretely and silently, to guarantee security and protect believers and authorities, foreigners and Italians. That’s Defence, too. Thank you all, men and women of the Armed Forces”.
