“Defense is a great machine serving the Nation. It works when every cog plays its part: military and civilian personnel, operational and administrative skills, experience and innovation.
I cannot imagine a Defense that does not invest more and more in civilian personnel.
I cannot imagine a Defense with only a military ‘component.’
Defense is — and will increasingly be — more efficient when its military and civilian souls are able to integrate and cooperate, with different yet equally indispensable roles.
Different experiences, paths, skills, and visions come together toward a common goal: making the Country stronger, more resilient, and better prepared to face the times we live in.
Today we pay tribute to the women and men who, every day, help build a more modern, efficient, and prepared Defense.
Hybrid threats, cyber threats, disinformation, artificial intelligence, critical infrastructure: the world has changed, and so too has the way Italy is defended.
For this reason, civilian Defense personnel are an integral part of national security. With professionalism, responsibility, and expertise often far from the spotlight — but decisive nonetheless.
Because we are not only building today’s Defense. We are building the Defense of tomorrow’s Italy. For our children, for our future, for the Country.
Thank you to the civilian personnel of Defense.”
Thus spoke Guido Crosetto, Italy’s Minister of Defence, on the occasion of the “Civil Personnel Day of the Defense Administration.”
