This afternoon, an Army soldier from the “Safe Roads” operation, along with his patrol colleagues, noticed a man who appeared to be about to jump off an overpass.
In moments like these, training and a sense of duty alone are not enough.
What is needed is the clarity to understand the situation and the ability to find the right words, to find a way to open a dialogue.
What is needed is humanity.
That profound humanity that distinguishes Italian uniforms.
The soldier managed to gain the man’s trust, convince him to stop, and bring him back to safety.
A story that speaks of operational readiness, but also of presence, listening, and responsibility.
Because that is also what the Defense is about: being there in times of difficulty.
