Tuesday, April 25th marks the 78th Liberation Day.
A day we, the Italians, should consider a celebration for all.
April 25th, 1945 represents a fundamental milestone in the history of our Republic. It represents, in fact, the affirmation of democracy and freedom. The end of the war and the regained independence.
In that conflict, Italians, both civilian and military, made great sacrifices and suffered many losses but, in the end, Italy was once again free, united and independent under a single Flag, with a great desire for reconstruction, both moral and material.
The Tricolour is the symbol chosen for this year's commemorative poster, accompanied by the phrase "Freedom is like air" from Constitution Speech delivered in 1955 by one of the members of the constituent assembly of the Italian Republic, Piero Calamandrei.
His words bring along a great message: freedom, like peace, must never be taken for granted. They are values that represent the pillars of our democracy and that women and men of Defence are committed to safeguarding every day, today more than ever.
The commemorative poster has been displayed in all municipalities decorated with the Gold Medal for Military Valour and in major Italian cities, as well as published on the Defence website and social channels.
There will be multiple commemorations on April 25th.
At 9 am, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, will pay tribute to all the Fallen by laying a laurel wreath at the Vittoriano.
Following this, President Mattarella, again accompanied by Minister Crosetto, will travel to Cuneo, Borgo San Dalmazzo and Boves for ceremonies connected with the 78th Liberation Day.
Among the celebrations, on April 24th, at the Quirinale Palace, President Mattarella will meet the representatives of the Veterans Associations, together with Minister Crosetto.
Long live Italy! Long live freedom! Up with April 25th!
