“One year ago, in Castel d’Azzano (VR), three Carabinieri tragically lost their lives: Second Lieutenant Marco Piffari, Marshal Valerio Daprà, and Senior Corporal Davide Bernardello. They fell in the line of duty, killed by an explosion during a clearance operation.
Three Carabinieri. Three soldiers. Three servants of the state.
On the day of their final farewell, in front of their families, I made a solemn promise: the names of the righteous—those who gave their lives for their country—would remain etched in the memory of the Republic.
The Armed Forces are the guardians of that memory. And when the names of Marco, Valerio, and Davide are called, there will always be someone to answer for them: Present!
Today, one year later, that promise is more alive than ever.
Time does not erase the pain of those who loved them, nor the debt of gratitude our country owes them.
To their families, I wish to renew my solidarity and reaffirm that they will never be alone. Because their sacrifice is part of the collective memory of all of Italy.
A thought of deep gratitude also goes out to all those who, in the line of duty, were wounded on that terrible day.
Marco Piffari. Present!
Valerio Daprà. Present!
Davide Bernardello. Present!” So said Minister Guido Crosetto.
