“They never struck the flag under which they had sworn allegiance to the Homeland. The memory of the sailors of the Battleship Roma, lost at sea, and those who lost their lives with the sinking of the Destroyers Da Noli and Vivaldi reminds us of how long and painful the road was for our country to regain freedom. In the days, and then in the terrible months, that followed the Armistice of September 8, 1943, the Armed Forces experienced the tragedy of disbandment but never lost their sense of honor in the defense of the Homeland.” This was said by Minister Guido Crosetto on the anniversary of the sinking of the Battleship Roma and the Destroyers Da Noli and Vivaldi – "Day of Remembrance for Sailors Lost at Sea."
