“Today marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Enrico Mattei, a central figure in Italian industrial history and a key player in the country’s postwar reconstruction.
Mattei was able to look beyond the boundaries of his own time, recognizing before others the strategic value of Africa and the need to build new relationships with the continent—not based on dependency, but on cooperation, mutual respect, and shared benefits.
His vision helped strengthen Italy’s role in the world, paving the way for a development model capable of combining economic growth, infrastructure, energy, and lasting partnerships.
