Akeso 1191: The Italian Air Force Medical Service at the Service of Citizens
This, Too, Is Defense
225 specialized medical services in just 10 hours. Examinations, checkups, and medical care for citizens of all ages.
This is Akeso 1191: a medical exercise that put the community at the center.
In Alagna Valsesia, in the province of Vercelli, from October 8 to 10, the Italian Air Force tested its ability to deploy a specialized medical unit in the field and integrate it with the National Health Service.
Seven specialized clinics were made available to the public, transforming a training exercise into a tangible opportunity for citizens, who were able to access medical examinations and checkups. For children, first-aid training sessions were also offered.
It all began at the foot of the mountains where, at the beginning of the last century, physiologist Angelo Mosso launched the first studies on the effects of high altitude on the human body—and where, last year, the Italian Air Force Medical Service carried out the Artemis 4554 scientific mission. This exercise assessed the service’s ability to deploy a high-level specialized medical unit and integrate it with the National Health Service.
This, too, is what the Military Medical Service is all about: added value in the service of public health.
