Air Rescue for Two Lost Hikers in Sardinia
This, Too, Is Defense
Cagliari.
Darkness, an impassable ravine, and two hikers unable to continue.
The alarm is sounded. An Italian Air Force helicopter takes off from the Decimomannu base.
Using night-vision systems, the crew locates the two men and pinpoints their coordinates with extreme precision, transmitting them to the Sardinian Alpine and Speleological Rescue teams, who are then able to reach them and bring them to safety.
The helicopter returns to base, remaining on standby to take off again in case of an urgent medical evacuation.
This, too, is Defense.
