“The commitment of the Italian defence continues: we are doing our best to mitigate the suffering of the civilian population”, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said.
The young patients will be treated at hospitals identified by the Ministry of Defence: Santobono in Naples; Meyer in Florence; Gaslini in Genoa; Niguarda in Milan; Rizzoli in Bologna and Bambin Gesù in Rome.
The operation was conducted by an Air Force crew with the cooperation of military medics and paramedics. Two medical doctors from Genoa Gaslini Hospital, a cultural mediator from the Ministry of Health and personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation also took part in the activity.
Italy, while evaluating the possible airdrop of humanitarian material in the Gaza Strip, hopes that a maritime corridor for the transport of humanitarian aid will be established, and stands ready to provide an Army field hospital as soon as conditions on the ground will allow it.
