“It is with deep emotion and grief that we recall the destruction of the City of Cassino, 81 years ago. An horrific tragedy, whose unfathomable toll in terms of lives lost and grief was paid by the civilian population. Keeping alive the memory of such tragedies helps us understand the absolute value of peace. Also on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, I pay tribute to the victims of this tragic event”.
