Today, Italy celebrated April 25, or Liberation Day.

This morning, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, accompanied by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, laid a wreath at the Vittoriano as a tribute to all the Fallen on the occasion of the 78th Liberation Day celebrations.

The ceremony was held in the presence of the highest offices of State: the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, and the President of the Constitutional Court, Silvana Sciarra. Also present were the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, and the military leadership.

This was followed by commemorations in Cuneo, Borgo San Dalmazzo and Boves. In Cuneo, the Head of State, accompanied by the Minister of Defence, laid a wreath at the Resistance Monument. A commemorative ceremony was then held at the Teatro Toselli, attended by, among others, the President of the Region, Alberto Cirio, the Mayor, Patrizia Manassero, and the President of the Province, Luca Robaldo. The President of the Historical Institute of the Resistance, Sergio Soave, also spoke.

Cuneo was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valour on 1 August 1947.

In Borgo San Dalmazzo (Cuneo), President Mattarella, accompanied by Minister Guido Crosetto, laid a laurel wreath at the Deportation Memorial. This was followed by a visit to MEMO4345, a memorial museum dedicated to the Shoah. Borgo San Dalmazzo received the Gold Medal for Civil Merit in 2001.

The last of the ceremonies was held in Boves, where President Mattarella, accompanied by Minister Crosetto, paid homage to the monument commemorating the victims of the Boves massacre. A visit to the Parish Church of St. Bartholomew, to pay homage to the graves of Blesseds Don Giuseppe Bernardi and Don Mario Ghibaudo, victims of the massacre on 19 September 1943, concluded the official moments.
