"Ambassador Luca Attanasio and Carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci: two servants of the state who lost their lives in a cowardly attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo, together with their colleague Mustapha Milambo on February 22, 2021.
They fell while carrying out their mission: to bring support, protection, and cooperation to those in need.
Luca Attanasio embodied a diplomacy based on dialogue, proximity, and the promotion of peace. Carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci fulfilled his military duty with honor, protecting those entrusted to his care until the very end.
Their example calls us all to the highest sense of service, responsibility towards the institutions, and defense of the values of the Republic.
In their memory, we renew our commitment to peace and security."
