18th Conference of Italian Ambassadors and Ambassadresses
“The true defense today lies in the ability to prevent: to intercept trends, to ‘read’ the movements taking shape around the world which, if left unchecked, can become devastating. You Ambassadors play a fundamental role: you are the Republic’s first sensors, those who enable us to understand what is happening beyond our borders.
And when it is not possible to fully anticipate threats, it is essential at least to understand them before they erupt. This is not a military task, but an eminently political one.
From this perspective, the relationship between Defense and Foreign Affairs is essential. Thanks to your invaluable work, for which I thank you, together we can promote the Italian approach to addressing an increasingly complex international scenario: an approach based on dialogue and inclusivity, which is an integral part of our culture and our identity. A capacity to prevent and resolve disputes that the world today deeply needs.”
Thus, the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, in his address at the Farnesina on the occasion of the 18th Conference of Italian Ambassadors.
