The Military Chemical Pharmaceutical Plant, a unit of the Ministry of Defence, has been supporting patients suffering from rare diseases for over 20 years, with the engagement of all its personnel, military and civilian, in researching, manufacturing, distributing and importing so-called “Orphan Drugs” and drugs in short supply. An activity strengthened by the close cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Italian Pharmaceutical Agency (AIFA)
The role of the Military Chemical Pharmaceutical Plant was recently recognized with the integration of its representatives within the National Committee on Rare Diseases (CoNaMr), established according to Law 175/2021 (Consolidated Law on Rare Diseases). The Committee leads and coordinates all the activities regarding said diseases, from early diagnosis to therapy, from research to scientific dissemination.
The service rendered to patients suffering from rare diseases is also provided by the Orphan Drugs Portal, recently established to facilitate accession to treatment for hundreds of thousands of people, and improving supply modes and distribution of required medicines.
