Major General (AF) Bruno LEVATI
MG (AF) Bruno LEVATI was born on April 1, 1970.
In 1995, he earned his military pilot's badge at Euro-NATO-Joint-Jet-Pilot-Training (ENJJPT), Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls (Texas);
In 1996, having completed his conversion at the Trinational Tornado Training Establishment, RAF Cottesmore (UK), he was assigned to the 36th Fighter Wing, Gioia del Colle (Bari), 156th Group. In 2008, he was reassigned to the 61st Wing, where he assumed command of the Aircraft Efficiency Group and of the 212th Slow Mover's Interceptors Group.
In 2011, he was assigned to the Military Policy Division of the Defence General Staff as Strategic Analyst at the Strategic Direction Branch.
In 2013, he was called to the Air Force Staff as Flight Aide and Chief Special Secretary to the Chief of Staff. In 2016, he returned to the 36th Fighter Wing as Commander.
From 2018 to 2021, he served in Washington, DC, as National Deputy for ITALY at the JSF Joint Program Office.
From 2021 to 2023, he was at the Secretariat General of Defence/National Armaments Directorate - IV division as Director of the F-35 Program for Italy.
At present, MG (AF) Bruno LEVATI is the Acting Chief of Staff of the Office of the Minister of Defence.
MG (AF) LEVATI has achieved the following flight-related qualifications:
- Combat Ready in the Fighter Bomber role;
- Combat Ready in the slow mover's interceptor role;
- Combat Ready in the Fighter Interceptor role;
- Training leader/chase;
- Package commander day/night;
- Crew resources management instructor;
- Flight Instructor;
- Operational Tactics Instructor;
- Instructor in Phase IV “Lead In To Fighter Training” program for pilots destined for combat lines;
- Production tester;
- Flight Safety Officer;
He has 3,500+ flight hours to his credit, of which 3,300 on combat aircraft, mainly Tornado and Eurofighter;
He is the recipient of the following principal honours:
- Distinguished Service Gold Cross;
- Gold Long Service Air Medal;
- Civil Defence Bronze Medal of Aeronautical Merit;
- NATO Former-Yugoslavia Medal;
- NATO Medal for operations in Kosovo;
- Commemorative Cross for operations in contributing to the maintenance of international security in the context of military operations in Bosnia;
- Silver War Badge - Fighter Specialty;
- Bronze Medal of Civil Protection for Public Merit;
- Officer of the Italian Republic;
- Legion of Merit of the President of the United States;
- Officer's Cross, with Swords, of the Melitense Order of Merit.
MG (AF) Bruno LEVATI holds a bachelor's degree in “Aeronautical Sciences” and a master's degree in “Political Science,” a master's degree in “Strategic Military International Studies” and a master's degree in “Geopolitics, Economic Globalization and International Institutions.”
