Brigadier General Giuseppe Faraglia

Brig. Gen. Faraglia joined the Army in 1983 by entering the Military Academy in Modena where he was commissioned as an Infantry Officer two years later. Upon completion of subsequent Infantry Officer Course in Turin (1988), he was firstly assigned to the 2nd Parachute Battalion “TARQUINIA”. Immediately after, he joined the 9th Special Forces Battalion "COL MOSCHIN" where successfully completed the course for Special Forces operators (1989).

From 1989 to 1996, with the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain, he served in the "COL MOSCHIN" as Platoon and Coy Commander by also deploying on multiple overseas operations such as “Provide Comfort” in Kurdistan (1991) and “Restore Hope” in Somalia (1992-94). In the latter mission, he was deeply involved in combat in the context of the so-called “Battle of the Pasta factory”, broken out in Mogadishu on 2 July 1993. For his conduct in the battle, he was awarded the Military Bronze Medal for bravery.

After completing the Army Staff College (1996) and promoted Major, from 1996 to 1999, he served as a Special Forces Staff Officer at the Army General Staff in Rome.

Selected by the Army, he attended the Italian Advanced Command and Staff College for Joint Services (2° ISSMI) in Rome (1999-2000).

Promoted Lieutenant Colonel (2000), he returned to the 9th Special Forces Battalion "COL MOSCHIN" as Battalion Commander (2002-2004). During that commanding period, he spent a tour of duty in Eastern Afghanistan in the context of the operation “Enduring Freedom”.

In 2004 he was appointed as Current Operations Chief (J3) at the Italian Special Forces Operations HQ (COFS). In that period (2004-2008) he was promoted Colonel (2007) and appointed as ACOS OPS of mentioned COFS. He also spent another tour of duty in Afghanistan as Chief J5 of ISAF Special Forces HQ.

From October 2008 to June 2011, he commanded the 9th Special Forces Regiment "COL MOSCHIN”.

In July 2011, he deployed again to Afghanistan as Chief of Staff of ISAF Special Forces HQ.

From July 2012 to September 2015, he served as Military Attaché to the Italian Embassy in Kabul (Afghanistan). During that period, he was promoted Brigadier General (2013) and also awarded the “LOYA JIRGA" medal, one of the highest accolades conferred by the President of the Afghan Islamic Republic.

From October 2015 to March 2019, Brig. Gen. Faraglia led the National Training Center for Junior Non-Commissioned Officers (JNCO) in Capua, a town close to Naples.

From March 2019 to June 2020, he commanded the Italian Infantry School, in Cesano di Roma (Rome).

From 30 June 2020, he is the Commander of the Italian Joint Force Headquarters (ITA-JFHQ).

Brigadier General Faraglia is married to Mrs. Andersen and has one son, Kristian, and one daughter, Giulia.
