The Space Operations Command attended French exercise AsterX 2023 on space dynamics for the multi-domain and international context.
The initiative, organised for the third consecutive year by the French Commandement de l'Espace (CDE), took place from 23 February to 10 March in Toulouse.
Italy participated together with Germany and the United States, the main countries of reference for France for cooperation in the space sector.
In addition to the Italian personnel deployed in Toulouse, the operational units that operate in the new domain of operations, space. Under the supervision of the Command for Joint Operations (COVI) and the direction of the Space Operations Command (COS), the Joint SICRAL Management and Control Centre (CIGC SICRAL), the Joint Satellite Remote Sensing Centre (CITS) and the Space Situational Awareness Centre (C-SSA) have operated at a tactical level.
This year, the Italian Armed Forces too, including the Carabinieri, followed the activity through their respective Space Coordination Elements, which are being set up and tested within their operational Commands.
One of the most significant elements of the activity was the federation of AsterX to the broader context of multi-domain operations, represented by the French Joint exercise ORION, which involved more than 7,000 military personnel from all components (land, maritime, air, space, and cyber). They were all engaged in extensive manoeuvre in all dimensions.
