Today the Italian Joint Operations Headquarters(COI) Commander, Lieutenant General Marco Bertolini, concluded his two-day visit to the Italian military contingent deployed in Western Afghanistan.
Yesterday, upon his arrival in Afghanistan, General Bertolini was welcomed in Herat by General Michele Pellegrino, commander of Regional Command West (RC-W),the Italy-led multinational command operating in Western Afghanistan. General Bertolini subsequently reached Forward Operating Base (Fob) Dimonios in Farah, where the Transition Support Unit – South (TSU-S), based on 6th Regiment Bersaglieri- Trapani, is deployed. After a quick operational update, having addressed the staff, the COI Commander moved on to FOB Tobruck, in Bala Boluk, the headquarters of the TSU-S detachment tasked with supporting Afghan Security Forces in ensuring security along Route 517, the main connection road between Bala Boluk and Farah.
In the afternoon the Italian senior officer reached FOB La Marmora in Shindand, where he met the staff of Transition Support Unit – Center (TSU-C), led by 183rd Parachutist Regiment Nembo from Pistoia.
On the second day of his visit, after his return to Herat, General Bertolini addressed the Italian contingent in Camp Arena, the headquarters of RC-W. He expressed his satisfaction with the results obtained since the beginning of the Italian mission in Afghanistan, congratulating the military for having contributed in deeds rather than words to the growth of Afghanistan, working side by side with its people, who still needs your assistance .
